Final Week: Storm Debris & Landscape Waste PickupThe Village of Roscoe will continue storm debris and landscape waste collection through Friday, May 8, 2026. This is the final week of Village-assisted pickup following the April 17 tornado.•Please place all materials at the curb - crews will not enter private property. •Separate large storm yard waste (branches/logs cut to ≤6 ft) and other storm debris (fence panels, shingles, siding, etc.) from regular garbage and weekly yard waste, and keep piles manageable. After May 8, residents will need to follow regular curbside disposal guidelines, which are available on the Village’s website. For larger items, please contact Waste Management at 815-874-8431 or visit https://www.wm.com/us/en/home to schedule pickup.
The Village of Roscoe Public Works Department, in coordination with Waste Management, will be working over the next several weeks to assist residents with storm cleanup throughout the Village.
To ensure that cleanup operations continue safely and efficiently, the following procedures are in place:
PARKING RESTRICTIONS
Temporary parking restrictions will be in effect on residential streets during regularly scheduled garbage pickup days.
Please refrain from parking on the street during these times and advise any contractors working at your property to do the same.
This will allow garbage trucks and Public Works vehicles adequate room to safely maneuver and collect debris.
REGULAR YARD WASTE COLLECTION
Waste Management will continue regular yard waste pickup on scheduled collection days.
While additional trucks and personnel have been deployed, it may take several weeks to fully clear all storm-related yard waste.
Residents may leave debris stacked near the curb; however:
- Keep all materials out of the street
- Keep piles organized and separated
This will help ensure safe and efficient collection.
REGULAR HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE PICKUP
Regular household garbage collection will continue on scheduled pickup days.
Residents should follow standard guidelines:
- Place all garbage in 96-gallon toters when possible
- Ensure excess materials are securely tied in trash bags
LARGE STORM-RELATED GARBAGE & REFUSE
The Village will assist with disposal of larger storm debris, including:
- Fence panels
- Shingles
- Insulation
- Siding and similar materials
Guidelines:
- Keep these materials separate from yard waste
- Stack in a pile near the curb, accessible from the street
- Do not exceed 6 feet by 4 feet in size
Prohibited items include:
Batteries, chemicals, refrigerators, TVs, computer monitors, and other e-waste or hazardous materials.
If you are unsure about an item, please contact the Village before placing it at the curb.
Village Public Works crews will collect this material and dispose of it in designated dumpsters placed throughout affected neighborhoods.
These dumpsters are for Village use only. Residents should ensure contractors do not use them.
LARGE STORM-RELATED YARD WASTE & GREENERY
The Village will also collect larger yard waste not eligible for regular pickup, including branches and logs.
Guidelines:
- Keep separate from regular yard waste
- Cut to a maximum length of 6 feet
- Stack neatly at the curb
These materials will be collected by Public Works and chipped or disposed of at a central location.
Is there a centralized location where I can find up to date information on storm recovery?
The Village of Roscoe will continue to update the Disaster Response Information Center information located at roscoeil.gov

- Storm Displaced Materials: Fencing, decking, roofing materials, shingles and similar items
- Flood Damaged Household Bulk: couch, loveseat, table, chair, etc. (Special arrangements should be made. See below)
How do I get my storm debris collected? Please help us serve you efficiently by properly sorting your debris:
- Yard Waste (small):
- Branches, limbs and brush up to 2 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length will be collected by Waste Management
- Yard Waste (medium):
- Please cut larger debris into smaller, manageable pieces
- Branches, limbs and brush up to 6 feet in length will be collected by Public Works
- Construction Debris:
- You may place items in your Waste Management tote, if they fit.
- Larger items that do not fit should be placed neatly at the curb and will be collected by Public Works
- Bulk Items (couch, loveseat, table, chair, etc.)
- Place at the curb
- Call Waste Management for bulk item pick up request 815-874-8431
When will debris pick up begin?
As early as your next regularly scheduled garbage pickup. Waste Management will be making their usual routes on Wednesday and Thursday. This will be an ongoing effort.
Dumping debris on other properties or public areas is strictly prohibited.
How long will cleanup take?
Cleanup is a coordinated effort between Waste Management and Village Public Works. Collection will continue as long as necessary, but residents should expect the process to take several weeks. Roadways will be heavily congested with cleanup traffic, and keeping these areas clear will help ensure safe, passable access for larger trucks and emergency or service vehicles.
Please avoid parking on the streets!!
In addition to my insurance company, where should I report damage?
We are asking residents to complete the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Damage Assessment Survey found on our web site www.roscoeil.gov . This is not an application for financial assistance. The data is shared with other agencies to support disaster declarations.
