Opportunities for Citizen Participation
Active community involvement and resident participation are essential to the strength and success of any local government. In the Village of Roscoe, our appointed boards and commissions are composed of dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and expertise to guide Village policy, review development proposals, uphold public accountability, and support the delivery of key municipal services.
By serving on these boards, residents have a meaningful opportunity to shape the future of their community and ensure that local decisions reflect the values and priorities of Roscoe’s citizens. From evaluating zoning requests to overseeing police personnel matters and managing pension funds, these bodies play a vital role in promoting transparency, fairness, and effective governance throughout the Village.
Current Boards and Commissions
|
Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA): Reviews applications for zoning variances, special uses, and appeals related to zoning decisions. The ZBA plays a vital role in shaping the physical development of the Village while upholding the principles of the Village’s zoning code. Members are tasked with carefully balancing the interests of individual property owners with the overall character and long-term planning goals of the community. |

|
Police Pension Board: Oversees the administration and investment of the Roscoe Police Pension Fund. This board ensures fiduciary responsibility and compliance with state pension requirements. Members work closely with financial advisors and legal counsel to ensure that the fund remains solvent, properly managed, and able to meet the retirement obligations of Roscoe’s sworn police personnel. |

|
Board of Fire and Police Commissioners: Responsible for the recruitment, examination, appointment, and promotion of sworn police personnel, in accordance with Illinois statutes. Commissioners are entrusted with ensuring that the hiring process is fair, competitive, and consistent with the Village’s commitment to professionalism and public safety. They also review disciplinary matters as required by law. |

Other Boards: Additional boards or ad hoc committees may be established from time to time to support special initiatives and planning efforts. |
Get Involved
Volunteering for an appointed Board or Commission provides a unique opportunity to learn more about local government and how it works. You’ll gain valuable experience in community leadership and decision-making. It is also a chance to make a difference in your neighborhood and contribute to the well-being of our community. When vacancies arise on any of these boards, the Village seeks qualified and engaged residents to step forward and serve. Appointed members provide a valuable service by contributing their time, knowledge, and perspective to help shape the future of Roscoe.
If you are interested in being considered for appointment to a future opening on any of the Village’s boards or commissions, we encourage you to complete and submit a Volunteer Interest Form using the link below. Your submission will be kept on file and reviewed when vacancies occur.
The Village President will review the applications of candidates who have completed this volunteer form and, based on the applicant’s preferences, background, and interests, may recommend individuals determined to be a good fit for a vacancy to the Village Board of Trustees for formal appointment confirmation.
